Your addiction is not who you are It is how you survived.
It disconnected you from your true self. Healing brings you back to who you are.
Make no mistake — addiction is real, and it can take everything: your health, your relationships, your work, even your life. But it was never where the problem began. Long before the first drink or drug, pain you did not choose — trauma, shame — disconnected you from your true self. The addiction was simply the thing that made the hurt stop. It worked, at first. Then it took over, carrying you further and further from the person you really are.
Healing is the way back — not just stopping, but facing what drove you there, and coming home to the self the pain buried.
Forty years ago I was a strung-out drug addict living on the streets. Today I have a life I could not have imagined — and a roadmap I wish someone had handed me back then.
If you are feeling pain you cannot explain, stuck in a pattern you cannot break, or watching someone you love slip away and not knowing how to help — you are not alone.
What if the addiction was never the root?
I spent years struggling with the addiction itself. The drinking. The drugs. The self-destruction. I tried willpower. I tried rehab. Nothing worked.
It never worked because I was treating the symptom, not the cause.
Addiction is not the root cause — but it can destroy everything good in your life, and hurt the people who love you. It disconnects you from your true self.
The addiction is the coping mechanism — the way a hurting person learns to survive pain they do not know how to face. Trauma. Shame. A deep belief that they are not worthy of a good life.
You cannot begin to heal until you quit. First, you stop the addiction. Then you heal the root.
The inner healing journey is where everything begins to change.
I have been where you are. And for me, the way out was the surrender. That is why I know I can empower you to take the journey back to yourself — because I have walked every step of it.
I know firsthand how dark it gets. And I know that healing is possible — for anyone, at any point, no matter how far gone it looks.
I wrote this book, built this program, and do this work to empower you with what I had to discover the hard way. Your inner healing journey does not have to take as long as mine did.

The inner healing journey community.
This work is not meant to be walked alone. The people who heal the deepest are the ones who find others walking the same path — fellow travelers who understand because they have lived it.
The Gift of Addiction community is a circle of people doing this work. Reading the book. Walking the pillars. Practicing the daily disciplines. Asking the hard questions. Some are in early recovery. Some are decades sober but still healing the root. Some have never had an addiction themselves but love someone who has.
If you are ready to walk with us — even quietly — start with the free 5 Pillars Guide. It will arrive in your inbox. So will I, with stories from my practice, teachings I am working with, and the occasional invitation to deeper work.
